Scare yourself this Halloween with some truly horrific queer horror

Surprisingly the queer horror genre is light on content, but there have been a few notable exceptions over the years. In the past we’ve covered the largest offering in LGBT2Q+ horror films, with the best gay vampire movies so far, and how to Get close to a gay vampire this Halloween, so it’s about time we revisited some of the best (few) gay horror films in the last few decades.

Our list will skip the vampires this year (not that we will), and we’ve aimed to share gems from queer cinema instead of returning to Hollywood favs that just happened to include gay characters (we’ll save that for next time). Just how many of these movies have you managed to see?

Hellbent (2004)

It’s Halloween in West Hollywood when two guys making out in a park are interrupted by a serial killer. Later that night, a group of gay kids decide to visit to the site of the murders. Hellbent was one of the first gay horror films and a good spin on the old slasher format with a proper queer twist, and of course set against the backdrop of West Hollywood’s famous Halloween night. Hellbent is also a good example of proper gay horror.

The Dark Place (2014)

Sean Paul Lockhart (Brent Corrigan) stars in this independent thriller. Keegan Dark (Blaise Embry) returns to the heart of California’s winery valleys to make peace with his long-estranged family. Instead, he finds a harrowing mystery that endangers his family’s lives and livelihood.

B&B (2017)

Gay Londoners Marc and Fred plan for a weekend of mischief, baiting the Christian owner of a remote Christian B&B. Events take a deadly turn when another guest arrives, who they think might have something more sinister in mind.

Killer Unicorn (2018)

A Brooklyn party boy is excited to go to a huge party event, but the night takes a turn when he is attacked by a stranger. A year later, he gives his social life a second chance, but a man wearing a unicorn mask is killing his friends one by one.

Spiral (2019)
