Single all the way now streaming holiday gayness on Netflix

Christmas is over a month away but Netflix has already gifted gays with a 1 hour and 41 minute present in the form of Michael Urie’s Single All the Way.

This heartwarming but not too cheesy holiday film stars Michael Urie as Peter and Philemon Chambers as his best friend Nick. When Peter’s boyfriend proves to be less than perfect and not worth taking home, Peter convinces Nick to head to New Hampshire for the holidays. Nick, a one-book children’s author, is welcomed into the family, with Peter’s family quickly turning to matchmaking. Barry Bostwick plays Peter’s dad, Kathy Najimy his mom & queen of Christmas, Jennifer Robertson has his sister, and Jennifer Coolidge his aunt.

Thankfully the self-loathing is short lived and the pair are quickly pulled into the small town drama. Peter’s mom sets her son up on a date with the only gay in town, and while there’s chemistry, Peter is clearly (very obviously) destined for someone else.

Urie is fantastic in the role, paired perfectly with Chambers. Peter’s whole family deliver wonderful performances, from his parents, to his excellent sister, Schitt’s Creek’s own Jennifer Robertson. And of course the cast is completed with the stunning Jennifer Coolidge playing… well you may almost think she’s playing herself!

And okay, there is a certain amount of cheesiness in Single All the Way, but what would a romantic holiday film in the Hallmark traditional without the tried and tested formula for turning a singleton into a couple for Christmas. Following the Hallmark formula, Peter returns to a small town from the scary big city but can’t quite leave his demanding job behind, yet the small town ways help him relax AND solve his work problems (along with so many other life problems). And along the way, Nick proves to be the sweetest, most caring and selfless guy; you can’t help but fall in love with him too. Unlike most Hallmark Christmas films shot in Winnipeg, Single All the Way picked Quebec for a closer to New Hampshire setting.
